GARRETT GRAY -
PRESIDENT
Garrett has been a member of Temple Israel for several years.
He and his wife Lisa were married at Temple Israel in 1987. They have two
children, Jessica, age 16, who was a Bat Mitzvah at Temple Israel and
currently attends the high school, and Jason age 13, who was recently a
Bar Mitzvah. Garrett, a trustee since 2000 and an officer for the past for the past
four years, has served on numerous Temple Israel committees, including the
oversight, inreach, dinner dance, website and Rabbi search committees, and
is the Chairmyahrtzeitan of the legal committee. He is a partner in the Long
Island general practice law firm of Weber Law Group LLP, where he
specializes in commercial and land use litigation. He is a graduate of
New York University College of Business and Public Administration and New
York University School of Law. He and his family reside in Woodmere
LAURENCE
ABRAMS - FIRST VICE PRESIDENT
Larry has been a member of Temple Israel
for over 17 years. Rabbi Zion married Larry and his wife Mindy, a long
time congregant and First Grade Hebrew School Teacher at Temple Israel.
Their enthusiasm for Temple Israel comes from their family’s commitment to
the continued growth and life of our temple. While continuing their
participation in Torah study, Larry and Mindy enjoyed the lively
discussion, education and friendships. Larry and Mindy have two children;
Cory age 15 and Joshua age 13. Cory who is in 10th grade and
attends Hewlett High School and Joshua who is in 8th grade and
attends Woodmere Middle School. Both also attend Temple Israel’s High
School Program. Larry is an Administrator of a 400 bed Nursing Home,
Kingsbridge Heights Rehabilitation Care Center, located in the Bronx. He
is a graduate of the University of Delaware, a fighting Blue Hen, and
received his M.B.A. from Adelphi University. Larry has served as a leader
and on various temple committees and has also served the Temple Board as
Vice President, Secretary and Financial Secretary.
MICHELE
PERLZWEIG - VICE PRESIDENT
Michele
Perlzweig grew up in Lawrence. She graduated from Lawrence High School
and received a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from the SUNY at
Stony Brook, College of Engineering. Michele has been a member of Temple
Israel since childhood, was a Bat Mitzvah and graduated from Temple
Israel’s Hebrew High School. She has been married to David for 17 years.
They have three children: Melissa, 15, in 10th grade at Hewlett High
School, Evan, 13, in the 8th grade and Bradley, 8 is in the 3rd grade.
They all attend Religious School. Michele has served as chairperson of the
Religious School Committee, Treasurer of the congregation and is currently
president of the Hewlett Elementary School PTA.
PENNY
SCHUSTER - VICE PRESIDENT
Penny grew up in Lawrence. She graduated
from Lawrence High School, received a B.S. Ed. from Ohio University and an
MBA from Adelphi University. A member of Temple Israel since childhood,
Penny was confirmed and graduated from the Religious School. Married to
Norman for 20 years, Penny and Norman have two children. Caryn, 17 is in
12th grade at Lawrence High School and Jimmy, 12 is in 7th grade at
Lawrence Middle School. Caryn was Bat Mitzvah and Confirmed and she
currently attends Hebrew High School. Jimmy attends Temple Israel's
Religious School and will be Bar Mitzvah this year. Penny is past chair of
the Religious School and Nursery School. She has been responsible for the
B'nai Mitzvah dates and is the officer in charge of membership and the
college committee. She is Past President of #1 School PTA, Lawrence Middle
School PTA and Lawrence Council PTA
Community Center.
WAYNE
PRICE - SECRETARY
Wayne joined the Temple Israel family 22
years ago, when he and his wife MaryAnna moved to Woodmere from Queens.
They have two children, Jeffrey, age 21, and Rachel, age 19. Both
children attended Religious School, were respectively Bar and Bat Mitzvah,
Confirmed, and graduated from Temple Israel’s Hebrew High School. Wayne
is a Board member for 7 years, has been a member of the Religious School
Committee and Pulpit Committee, and has been the Co-Chair of our annual
Journal Dinner Gala for the past four years. Wayne is also very active in
the Boy Scouts, serving on numerous committees. Wayne is a recipient of
the Silver Beaver, the highest award given an adult scouter in Nassau
County. Wayne is a graduate of Queens College and New York Law School.
JAMES ROTENBERG- TREASURER
Jim and his family have
been members of the Temple for over 30 years. His wife, Carol, grew up in
the Five Towns. They have two children, Clifford and Andrew, both age 35,
who attended Religious School and were B’nai Mitzvah at Temple Israel.
Jim, a Temple Board Member, has chaired the Long Range Planning Committee,
and has been a member of the Real Estate and Budget Committees. Jim
recently retired as Director of Global M&A from Mellon’s Human Resources &
Investor Solutions. He is a Special Advisor to Buck Consultants, an ACS
Company, and to JF Reda & Associates, and a Principal in JCR Consulting.
Jim is a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science, the University of
Wisconsin (Madison), and the New York University School of Law. Jim and
Carol reside in Lawrence.
