Rabbi Jay Rosenbaum Cantor Galina Paliy

 Rabbi Joel Y. Zion

Rabbi Jay Rosenbaum is a Spiritual leader of Temple Israel.  He and his family have been residents of the five towns and members of the Temple Israel family for 25 years.  As assistant Rabbi and Director of Education of the congregation, Rabbi Rosenbaum distinguished himself with our young families in the Religious and Nursery schools, through his hands on approach to Jewish education from preschool through high school and Bar/Bat Mitzvah training.  He sees as his mission narrowing the distance between the people of the book and the books of our people.  To this end he will work with all the generations of the congregation using the classroom, the pulpit, adult studies and programs to inform, challenge and engage our membership.

Rabbi Rosenbaum is known in our community and the American Rabbinate as a caring and compassionate pastor and social activist.  He believes that the primary responsibility of a Rabbi is being accessible and being there for his people in time of joy and times of sorrow.

He has served as Vice President of the New York Association of Reform Rabbis, the largest region of the International Reform Rabbinic body, the Central Conference of Reform Rabbis, as an officer of the New York Board of Rabbis, and chairman of its social action and international relations commissions.  He is a founder and the Secretary General of the North American Boards of Rabbis, an umbrella organization for Boards of Rabbis across the United States and Canada.  And works the International arena in building bridges of understanding between the American Jewish community and Jewish communities and foreign governments across Diaspora and Israel.

He was recognized as chaplain of the year for his work with rescue workers and victim’s families at Ground Zero and the aftermath of the terrorist attack on September 11.

This past year he initiated the first American Jewish and German exchange program for high school students and plans to continue this work promoting tolerance, respect, appreciation and partnership among young people with the youth of our temple.  He believes that what happens to one person of faith anywhere affects all people of faith everywhere.  He’s been an active participant in the Mid-East Peace process and promoting equality for Reform Jews in Israel. He also established the first youth exchange program between the Vatican and Temple Israel.

Rabbi Rosenbaum will continue to focus upon working with our youth both in and out of the classroom; a team player who will join with our Director of Education to create and implement dynamic and exciting programs that will convey Jewish values and the joy that comes from living a rich and involved Jewish life.  He looks forward to working with our Cantor providing spiritually uplifting and moving Shabbat and holiday services.

Finally he believes that no Jew should be spiritually homeless and therefore will be actively involved in outreach within our community.

For Rabbi Rosenbaum coming to this Pulpit is truly coming home.
